The "Wedded Rocks" (Meoto-IWA) or "husband and wife Rocks" are named after two Japanese Shinto deities Izanagi and Izanami. On behalf of their permanent union is a heavy rope of rice straw or shimenawa that connects them. Like many couples, they have weathered their share of storms. Together, they sit in the sea near the coast of Ise, Japan.
