Bio / Nano-Photonics Laboratory director Prof. Aydogan Ozcan from Electronics Engineering Department at UCLA.He developed a technique that allows to view in samples of body fluid and micro particles with a mobile phone webcam.
The study is called LUCAS - Lensless Ultrawide Field Cell Monitoring Array Platform based on Shadow Imaging.With some plugs by using an ordinary mobile phone , HIV, malaria, blood diseases like leukemia carried out by Ozcan in UCLA.With this technique,by using a lens thousands of cells can be distunguished at the same time.Liquid sample is placed directly on the photo sensor. Then putting a Led which has 470 nm blue wavelenght light reveals cell’s formal differences.The data obtained from receiver is converting to meaningful information by a special software.
